Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. ~ Margaret Mead
Today, I am very happy, and proud of all the work each and every person who is or has been part of this movement has contributed in the past 5 years. Especially to NSPCC campaigners who have been pushing for this for decades now, and were responsible for the introduction of the ‘allowing or causing the death of a child’ law in 2004, that secured a conviction for Baby Peters murderers.
Today, one of the aims from the original Baby Peter campaign, became law in the UK! Hopefully now there will be justice for some children when before there was none.
From today, child abusers who attempt to evade justice by passing blame, or remaining silent, can recieve a 10 year prison sentence. Click here to read more.
The NSPCC has been campaigning to change the law on child homicide and the infliction of serious harm since 1992, after the parents of baby Kim Griffin walked free despite having killed their daughter- because of the way the law worked. In 2004 the government finally introduced introduced a new offence of ‘causing or allowing the death of a child’, but until now, the law only applied to cases of child homicide. This latest addition to the law, to include causing physical harm , is the result of 20 years of hard campaigning by the NSPCC. ~ NSPCC
Thank you to every person who took action and contributed to this change, every person who signed a petition, went to a protest, sent a message to their MP or cabinet minister, raised awareness…every single person. You are all inspirational people, what we have achieved together is nothing short of brilliant. Brilliant because it will make a real and direct difference to victims and families, and brilliant because it is testament to the power of Love, will, work and unification.
It is an amazing testement to what we can achieve when we come together, united through love and purpose. Well done citizens and government!
It is hopefully one of many changes to come that will facilitate change and eventually lead to a safer world for children…and emphasises the importance of public involment in these issues.
Indifference is destructive. Love is a verb. Take action against child abuse, look what can happen!
